DE BIBLIOTHEEK GRONINGEN
The declining number of members, borrowing and visitors led to the development of a library concept based on retail marketing principles. At the request of Biblionet Groningen, SVT Branding & Design Group designed a new concept for the ideal library; a library that is customer-focused and manages to both tempt and inspire its customers. It should be an attractive place for new customer groups, but should not alienate its current customers.
Thanks to its improved, pleasant interior and better presentation, the library has become a place for relaxation, enjoyment and briefly getting away from it all. Core values are: open, warm, inspiring, personal, contemporary, expertise and quality.
Cabinets and tables have been specifically designed so the collection can be presented better and in a more flexible manner. The layout concept is modular and can therefore be used in all types of building.
In addition to the layout concept, SVT also designed a communication concept that supports the service concept (more self service) on the one hand and creates an inspiring and pleasant atmosphere on the other. This has been implemented through clear, distinctive signing, making things easier to locate and recognise. The newly developed “tone of voice” has also improved the library’s ambience.
The first Groningen Concept library opened in Haren in July 2010. Currently a start is being made with the conversion into a national concept, which will be available to all 1250 libraries in the Netherlands in the future.
