DE BIBLIOTHEEK
The libraries in the Netherlands are working towards polishing up their slightly stale image. This is apparent in several places through the whole country, and vast efforts are being invested in developing new formulas that are in accordance with the new function of the library. The emphasis should no longer be so much on lending out books, but should shift towards inspiring the customer and making the information accessible, in a contemporary environment, with an assortment that is also attractive to the youth. In order to accomplish this, retail principles are applied.
With a repositioning of this kind, a new brand mark is required. Therefore, the umbrella organization, the Vereniging van Openbare Bibliotheken (VOB), assigned SVT Branding & Design Group to develop a brand mark with a fresh, contemporary and inviting character, which is in line with the new positioning. In the Bull’s eye (see images) this positioning is described in detail.
The design, which has a warm and brisk charisma, was presented recently to the General Assembly of VOB and was received with enthusiasm. As a result, the brand mark will be implemented for an increasing group of libraries and SVT Branding & Design group will translate the design to additional sub labels and related applications.
The brand mark forms the base and the starting point for the new house style of the libraries that are tied to VOB. These libraries can use a set of basic designs for among other front signage, stationery, brochures, membership cards, posters, bags and badges.
Because this keeps the costs for implementation low, it will be easy to implement this new positioning firmly in the market fast.
